MEDITATION, MIND & SPIRITUALITY SEMINAR: MYTHS VS. FACTS

With Christianity adopting and promoting eastern meditation and contemplative practices, it is crucial to ask the question, “What is the difference?”    Former Zen meditator Kok Tho Yip will traces the history of eastern beliefs, investigate how neuroscience explains these beliefs and contrast them with the Biblical perspective.

Part 1 will be “Neuroscience of the Brain and Mind in Meditation.”  Session 2  will discuss “Activating the Brain Regions Responsible for Love, Hope, Optimism & the Will.”  Session 3  addresses the question “Are There Eastern Beliefs in the Hybrid Versions of Christian Contemplation?”  His insights into the current popular meditational hybrids like Christian Yoga, Holy Yoga, Christian Contemplation, Centering Prayer, etc. and Mindfulness as used in therapy and in schools will help listeners separate myths from facts so as to choose wisely.

Yip was a Zen meditator for 20 years before converting to Christianity.  The rapid growth of meditation in religion, in renowned business organizations, self-help transformational movements and therapy has fueled the demand for answers.  His international appearances include speaking tours in the US, Canada, Australia, Korea and Asia.  He’s also been featured in TV and radio appearances in Australia and will be featured in a documentary on modern spiritualism being produced by 3ABN TV in the US.  Yip has spoken regarding meditation and the neurology of the brain at Dr. Neal Nedley’s popular “EQ Summit, USA,” which educates in optimum “Emotional Intelligence.”  Several medical professionals have sought permission to use Yip’s material in their respective fields, and materials have been translated by other interested parties into additional languages.
